UL Warns of Potential Safety Hazards with Counterfeit Shop and Job Site Radios

NORTHBROOK, Ill., - Oct. 20, 2004 - Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) is notifying consumers and merchandisers that a shop radios manufactured by Changzhou Master Electric Appliance Co. bear counterfeit UL Listing Marks, do not meet the UL safety requirements, and may pose a fire hazard to the user.

Name of Product: Shop and Job Site Radio, Model MYWR-1A, Rated 120 V, 1.0 A, 60 Hz.

Units: Approximately 2,600 units

Manufacturer: Changzhou Master Electric Appliance Co., Ltd., China

Date of Manufacture: July 2003 to October 2003

Hazard: This product offers a feature that allows consumers to use batteries or a battery pack similar to those used in portable power tools. Using the battery pack with this product has been determined to cause a potential fire hazard.

Identification:
On the packaging: Identifies product as Shop and Job Site Radio.
On the product: In addition to product name, may also be marked with brand name, "NIKOTA." An unauthorized UL, cUL or cULus Listing Mark appears on the product. The use of these Listing Marks are not authorized for this product. The product is not considered Listed by UL, or any of its affiliates.

What you should do: UL encourages consumers to immediately discontinue use of this product, contact the manufacturer and/or return it to the place of purchase.
