NORTHBROOK, Ill. - Sept. 12, 2005 - Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL), the world's leading safety testing and certification organization, announced today that Albert P. Brazauski has been selected by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), as the recipient of its Edward Lohse Information Technology Medal. The award recognizes the recipient's contributions to the national and international standards community through leadership and fostering of cooperation among the bodies involved in global standardization. This award, along with several others, will be presented during the ANSI Annual Conference Reception and Awards Banquet on Oct. 5, 2005, in Washington, D.C., as part of the U.S. celebration of World Standards Week.

Currently a senior staff engineer at Underwriters Laboratories Inc., Mr. Brazauski is well known and highly respected in the field of information technology product safety. His accomplishments in the development of safety standards for the IT industry span more than 40 years, and he has achieved many successes in harmonizing both national and international safety requirements.

"As Secretary to IEC Technical Committee 108 for Safety of Electronic Equipment in the fields of A/V, IT and Communication Technology, Al has successfully organized the work of the Committee to promote timely publication of safety requirements that are applied worldwide," said Bob Williams, director of standards for UL. "Al's efforts have contributed significantly to the use of the IEC Standard 60950, for this technology as the de facto global standard."

"I was very pleased when I found out that I had been nominated for the Edward Lohse medal, and now, I'm even more honored to have been found worthy to be its recipient," said Albert Brazauski, senior staff engineer, UL. "I have found my work in the standards arena, both in the development and the harmonization efforts, to be both challenging and rewarding. I would like to thank the many individuals and organizations with whom I have worked during my career for the support they have provided to further standardization efforts that enabled me to receive this award. I look forward to continuing my efforts in the coming years."

Edward Lohse was instrumental in the founding of the National Committee for Information Technology Standards (NCITS), formerly known as Accredited Stanadards Committee X3 - (Information Processing Systems) and ISO/IEC Joint Technical Committee 1- Information Technology, and was a recognized leader within the Information Technology Industry Council, Electronics Industries Association, Association of Computing Machinery, International Telecommunications Union, Society of Automotive Engineers and the American National Standards Institute. One of his major accomplishments, contributing to his being awarded the Astin-Polk International Standards Medal, was the fostering of close cooperation among the CCITT (International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee of the International Telecommunications Union), ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission).

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) annual leadership and service awards program is a long-standing tradition that recognizes and honors the creativity, dedication and vision of those individuals who contribute to and participate in the U.S. and global voluntary standards-setting and conformity assessment activities. These awards are a vital component of ANSI's tradition.
