UL Announces Expanded EMC Testing Capabilities For Automotive Suppliers

DaimlerChrysler, Ford and GM recognize lab in Novi, Mich., for new EMC Requirements

NORTHBROOK, Ill., September 1, 2005 - Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) has announced that Ford Motor Co., General Motors Corp. (GM) and DaimlerChrysler now recognize the expanded electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing capability available at UL's facility in Novi, Mich., a suburb of Detroit. The added testing capability supports the newest revisions to the Ford, GM and DaimlerChrysler EMC specifications as listed below:

  • Ford: ES-XW7T-1A278-AC
  • DCX: DC-10615 and DC-10614
  • GM: GMW3097

"UL's ability to offer full-service testing to all American automotive manufacturers adds a new layer of expertise to our growing umbrella of EMC capabilities," said Priya Tabaddor, section manager of UL's International Automotive EMC Services. "During the past few months that the Novi facility has offered this new EMC testing capability, UL's customers have grown increasingly aware of the breadth of testing services UL has to offer."

The UL facility in Novi is certified by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) and the Automotive EMC Laboratory Recognition Program (AEMCLRP) for testing to SAE, ISO, CISPR and IEC standards. The facility is also approved by the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA - http://www.vca.gov.uk/ ), a leading European vehicle approval authority and technical service, for the purposes of witnessed testing to EMC requirements of EEC Automotive Directive 95/54/EEC and ECE Regulation 10.02.

The UL-Novi laboratory is the largest independent, third-party, Detroit-based automotive EMC components testing facility, offering the widest breadth of domestic and international OEM test services. UL's team of National Association of Radio and Telecommunication (NARTE) Certified engineers and technicians test to a wide variety of global automotive and vehicle manufacturers' specifications.
