UL Announces New Device For Wind Uplift Resistance TestingNORTHBROOK, Ill., July 6, 2006 - In response to industry advances in the material, construction methods and safety features of roof systems, Underwriters Laboratories designed and is now offering testing services utilizing its new 12' x 24' wind uplift apparatus. The 12' x 24' wind uplift test apparatus will enable UL to evaluate metal roofing systems in accordance with ASTM E 1592 (Standard Test Method for Structural Performance of Sheet Metal Roof and Siding Systems) as well as non-metal roof systems in accordance with UL 1897 and regional requirements specified throughout the United States. Combined with its existing 10' x 10' test apparatus, which is able to test roofing systems in accordance with UL 580 and UL 1897, UL now has the ability to test virtually all roofing systems. "UL has a knowledgeable and highly responsive team that can offer comprehensive wind uplift services at cost-effective pricing, lifting the burden from our customers of having to go to a variety of labs to fulfill all of their needs," said Ken Rhodes, UL senior staff engineer.
