Mark W. Hurwitz elected to Underwriters Laboratories' Board of TrusteesNORTHBROOK, Ill., - May 16, 2006 - Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) today announced that Mark W. Hurwitz, Ph.D., has been elected to UL's board of trustees. Hurwitz most recently served as president and CEO of American National Standards Institute (ANSI) from July 1999 to January 2006. As ANSI's president, Hurwitz served as ANSI's principal representative to the ISO Council and as a member of the Ad Hoc Executive Committee of COPANT, the Pan American Standards Commission. He was also a member of the U.S. Trade Representative's Industry Consultations Program, serving as a member of the Industry Functional Advisory Committee (IFAC) on Standards for Trade Policy Matters. Prior to joining ANSI, Hurwitz served as CEO and executive vice president of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). He is past executive vice president and CEO of the Building Owners and Managers Association International (BOMA) and a former senior vice president/chief operating officer of the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents. Hurwitz founded the Center for Association Leadership in Princeton, N.J., an association management consulting firm. Throughout his career, Hurwitz has served as an adjunct faculty member in the graduate schools of numerous colleges and universities. His doctoral dissertation focused on boards of directors.
