The UL Marine Mark: a symbol of safety

Get the UL Marine MarkUL has been testing and certifying products for marine use since 1969. With a UL Marine Mark on your product, you can show consumers, retailers, surveyors, insurers, government agencies, regulatory authorities and others that your product meets federal regulations and ABYC, NFPA and UL Safety Standards.

The UL Marine Mark signifies an extra level of safety beyond the traditional UL Mark. Products bearing the UL Marine Mark have been specifically evaluated for marine use. Taken into consideration are such conditions as:

  • shock (impact),
  • vibration,
  • ignition protection,
  • water ingress and
  • salt spray corrosion.

A commitment to safety

Helping marine product manufacturers get safer products into the marketplace is the primary objective of UL's Marine Department. The U.S. Coast Guard has designated UL as an independent testing laboratory qualified to conduct evaluations on a wide array of marine products. UL's Marine Department, based in Research Triangle Park, N.C., has also received numerous grants to conduct research for the U.S. Coast Guard.

UL's highly qualified staff of engineers and technicians not only evaluates marine products, they've also developed the widely accepted Standards to which the products are tested. Members of our staff also sit on a number of national boating and water safety committees to provide guidance to and seek input from the marine community.
