Printed wiring board (PWB) assembly traceability program
UL's PWB assembly traceability program provides traceability for printed wiring board assemblies and is intended to address traceability of a UL Recognized board and/or components only.
The program covers materials and components of assembled printed wiring boards, including the board itself, when these can only be identified at a board assembly location. This program is typically used when printed wiring boards are assembled remotely from an end product manufacturing location and traceability of a board or its components is a concern. The program includes verification that the solder processing requirements (times and temperatures) used are in accordance with the UL Recognition of the printed wiring board. The program also includes verification that the soldering process parameters are within the conditions acceptable for the PWB utilized in the assembly, including the verification of the correct solder times and temperatures.
UL's PWB assembly traceability program creates value for the end-product manufacturer by providing traceability for the materials and components of assembled printed wiring boards, including the board itself, that is assembled at an off-site location.
This program is covered under UL's Recognition Service under the category of Printed Wiring Board Assemblies (ZPVI2, ZPVI8).
