UL to Begin Developing Standards for the Canadian Market
UL has recently been accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) as one of only two standards development organizations based outside of Canada. This credential enables UL to create Standards for Canada along with fully harmonized binational standards for the U.S.-Canada marketplace, enabling more efficient manufacturer access to this valuable market. The two countries conduct the world's largest bilateral trade relationship, with total merchandise trade exceeding $500 billion annually.
In a news release issued by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), SCC's Chief Executive Officer John Walter stated: "With additional SCC-accredited standards development organizations operating in Canada, SCC is able to offer more standardization solutions to better serve the needs of Canadian government, industry and consumers."
UL Vice President of Standards Bob Williams noted that ULC Standards, a member of the UL family of companies, is also accredited to develop Standards for Canada and has been doing so under SCC accreditation since 1973. "The knowledge, expertise and experience of UL and ULC Standards in the standards development arena is a powerful combination. We're looking forward to working collaboratively with stakeholders and putting our capabilities to work in creating standards that provide a pathway for new and innovative products to enter the Canadian marketplace."
UL created its first safety Standard in 1903. Today, UL Standards encompass our extensive safety research, scientific expertise and uncompromising focus on quality.
