Wiring harnesses traceability program

UL's wiring harnesses traceability program provides traceability for wiring harnesses that are assembled at off-site locations and intended for use as factory installed components at an end-product manufacturing facility.

Wiring harnesses are defined as components consisting of two or more wires joined electrically and/or mechanically, and may include connectors, plugs, strain relief, splices, etc. When assembled at an off-site location, traceability for components used to construct a wiring harness is not possible at an end-product factory location.  This program can be used to provide this traceability. Each wiring harness is normally constructed in accordance with a harness diagram and is generally designed for a specific application that is indicated on a diagram or carton marking.  UL verifies that the wiring harness meets the specifications put forth by the buyer of the harness.

To protect the integrity of the UL Mark, UL-authorized component and end product manufacturers utilizing wire processed by an outside supplier are required to use this program.

UL's wiring harnesses traceability program creates value for the end-product manufacturer by providing traceability for the wire and other components used to construct a wiring harness that is assembled at an off-site location.

This program is covered under  UL's Recognition Service under the category of wiring harnesses (ZPFW2, ZPFW8).
