Telecommunications equipment testing

UL has been contributing to the telecommunication industry's efforts to mitigate the effects of fire for more than 20 years. UL assisted in the forensic investigation of the 1988 Hinsdale, IL central office fire conducted by the Illinois State Fire Marshal. As a further contribution to the telecommunication industry's excellent record of fire safety, UL developed a fire propagation test for equipment assemblies. The test results were subsequently embraced by the industry, as referenced in Bellcore GR-63 and ANSI T1.319.

It should be noted that the fire safety division's efforts are in conjunction with UL's advanced technology services for the telecommunication industry. Fire tests are conducted in accordance with the industry's standards.
