Our recruiting process

What to expect

Understanding our recruiting process can help alleviate any stress that you might feel thinking about interviewing.  We have a few simple steps that help us determine if your skills and abilities are a match for our open opportunities.

Generally, you will go through the following stages:

Application

For each opportunity, the application process starts with an online application that will determine if your education, skills, knowledge and abilities meet the initial job requirements.  The application stage is easy and quick taking about five to ten minutes to complete.

Test

Engineers will be invited via email to complete an online verbal and numerical reasoning assessment which will take you approximately forty-five minutes to complete.  You may wish to review a sample assessment.

Prescreen

This stage involves a brief telephone conversation with one UL team member, typically the Recruiter.  This is also your opportunity to ask questions. Depending on the number of questions you may have, the prescreen lasts between fifteen to thirty minutes.

Interview

After successfully completing the test and prescreen, you may be invited for an interview(s) with one or more UL team members.  During this stage, we are trying to determine how well you will fit UL's culture and organizational goals.  Preparation for the interview is suggested and here are some interview tips to help you plan.  To allow enough time for questions, we schedule one hour interviews with each UL team member.

Offer

After your interview, you should hear back from a UL team member as to your status within about two weeks.  If you are selected as the successful candidate for the open position, salary and start date will be discussed at that point.  Upon your acceptance, we will conduct an extensive background check including a pre-employment drug screen in the United States.
