UCMR 3 Analysis - A U.S. EPA Approved Laboratory & Awardee of a U.S. EPA Small Systems Contract

At UL, we take pride in our technical expertise and experience to analyze for emerging contaminants, as well as our in-depth understanding of the proposed Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule 3 (UCMR 3). This knowledge allows us to serve as a resource for our customers as they develop and implement their monitoring schedules. Our customers and regulatory agencies also have the confidence that the data generated by UL will meet the compliance requirements of this rule.

Key facts regarding UCMR 3

Like UCMR 1 & 2, UCMR 3 is designed to collect occurrence data on chemicals identified in the Contaminant Candidate List. These chemicals are not currently regulated by national primary drinking water regulations, but are known or anticipated to occur in drinking water, and may warrant regulation under the Safe Drinking Water Act. UCMR 3 specifies the following monitoring schedules based on system size:

Assessment Monitoring — For UCMR 3, all PWSs serving more than 10,000 people and 800 representative PWSs serving 10,000 or fewer people will monitor for 21 List 1 contaminants during a 12-month period from January 2013 through December 2015.

Screening Survey Monitoring— All PWSs serving more than 100,000 people, 320 representative PWSs serving 10,001 to100,000 people, and 480 representative PWSs serving 10,000 or fewer people are required to monitor for seven List 2 contaminants during a 12-month period from January 2013 through December 2015.
