UL's HazLoc Certification Services for Gas Detectors
UL offers a variety of HazLoc certification options to manufacturers and users regarding gas or vapor detection equipment, depending on the needs of the end-application. The following are the three UL product categories under which gas or vapor detection equipment can be UL certified:
- Gas or Vapor Detection Equipment Classified for Use in Hazardous Locations (JTPD)
- Gas or Vapor Detection Equipment Enclosures for Use in Hazardous Locations (JTOL)
- Gas or Vapor Detection Equipment Listed for use in Hazardous Locations (JTPX)
Classified Gas or Vapor Detection Equipment
This UL Classification program covers portable and permanently installed gas or vapor detectors and associated equipment for detecting specific gases or vapors, that may be present in the atmosphere incidental to operations or from accidental release, and for determining the extent of such release. Gas or vapor detectors in this category have been evaluated for risk of explosion, fire and electric shock only.
Classified Gas or Vapor Detection Equipment Enclosures
This UL Classification program covers gas or vapor detection equipment enclosures for use in hazardous (Classified) locations, as indicated on the individual product. Enclosures in this category have been evaluated as to explosion and fire hazard only.
Listed Gas or Vapor Detection Equipment
This UL Listing program covers portable and permanently installed gas or vapor detectors and associated equipment for detecting specific gases or vapors that may be present in the atmosphere incidental to operations or from accidental release, and for determining the extent of such release. Gas or vapor detectors UL Listed for use in any of the groups under Class I hazardous locations have been tested with respect to safety of operation of the instrument in the presence of flammable and explosive mixtures of representative gases and vapors with air.
UL certifications have been issued under all of these product categories.
