Field related certification services: electrical

UL offers many services related to product certification of installed products. Learn more about the evaluation of products in the field (field evaluation program), reporting product complaints or the misuse of UL Marks in the field (product incident report), and other important topics.

Field engineering services

A routine inspection could uncover a previously installed new piece of equipment that does not bear a third-party certification Mark or has been significantly modified since its manufacture date. UL offers a range of options with its Field Engineering Services for situations like these with three programs tailored to meet regulator needs. UL's Field Evaluation, Field Investigation and Field Inspection Services are designed to help determine compliance in a timely, cost-effective manner.

Market surveillance

Product Incident Reports (PIRs) are defined as complaints that are directed to UL in connection with products that have allegedly malfunctioned during use and bear UL's Listing, Classification or Recognition markings. This also includes a report of misuse of UL Marks on products not eligible to be marked, or on packaging where the UL Mark is improperly related to products in the packaging or in their advertising. In an effort to protect the UL Mark, any situation where the UL Mark has been misused, a company's reference to UL is misleading, or a UL certified product has failed to operate safely, please submit a product incident report directly to the UL Market Surveillance Department using one of the following forms:
