CB Scheme

The CB Scheme provides a means for the mutual acceptance of test reports among participating safety certification organizations for product certification at the national level. The scheme is an international network made up of product certification organizations in more than 40 countries throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa. UL can package the CB test report and test certificate with the UL Mark for streamlined global access. UL can also offer CE services as well for Europe.

UL's CB Scheme and CE services for appliances -- HOUS

The CB product category for household and similar appliances (HOUS) is based on standard IEC 60335, which contains general requirements (Part 1) as well as specific requirements for particular types of appliances (Part 2). UL is accredited by the IECEE as a national certified body (NCB) for products falling under the HOUS category and has qualified CB test laboratories (CBTLs) located worldwide for greater convenience. Multiple types of appliance and HVAC products are covered within the HOUS category including vacuums, electric irons, spin extractors, washing machines, electric shavers, grills, toasters, food waste disposers, storage water heaters, refrigerating appliances, motor compressors, deep fat fryers, and air conditioners.

Flexible testing options

The testing and evaluation can be conducted at one of UL's global CB testing laboratory (CBTL) locations, or product testing can be conducted at a manufacturer's facility under IECEE-approved data acceptance programs (TMP, SMT, or WMT). Testing at the manufacturer's facility can provide customers greater convenience and optimized cost savings. UL's extensive global capability also allows customers to work with a UL engineer who is familiar with their products and unique requirements of the regional marketplace.
