International Marks and Schemes
In addition to UL's traditional Marks for North America, UL can, through its global footprint, provide services to component suppliers who sell their components beyond the United States and Canada.
When looking to market beyond their own countries, manufacturers must understand and satisfy a new set of testing, evaluation, certification and regulatory compliance requirements applicable to their products to sell them in new markets.
Manufacturers can tap into local UL knowledge and expertise for a full spectrum of services ranging from developing compliance strategies, identifying critical standards and requirements, conducting all necessary testing/evaluations, preparing and submitting certification-ready documentation to applicable certification organizations, and facilitating sample management and invoice payments. Since the advent of the Single Market and the New Approach Directives, nearly all products sold in the 28 countries of the European Economic Area (EEA) have been required to bear the CE Marking. Combined, this market is about 60 percent larger than that of the United States
The CE Marking is a European marking of conformity that indicates that a product complies with the essential requirements of the applicable European laws, or Directives. The manufacturer, or his authorized representative established in the EEA, is responsible for affixing the CE Marking to his product.
Although the manufacturer is responsible for the actual application of the CE Marking to the product, UL offers several services to assist manufacturers with the CE Marking process.
International Schemes
IECEE CB Scheme
The CB Scheme is established by the International Electrotechnical Committee for Conformity Testing to Standards for Electrical Equipment (IECEE). It is an international system for mutual acceptance of test results among product testing and certification organizations of more than 52 participating countries of the CB Scheme.
- Under the CB Scheme, UL as an NCB (National Certification Body) can conduct testing and evaluation in accordance with the applicable IEC standard and the national and group differences of the targeted export markets.
- UL issues a CB Scheme's Test Certificate and a Test Report that can use to obtain national certifications and safety marks for exporting of components or products to other participating countries.
- The CB Test Certificate and associated CB Test Report you receive from UL will minimize the need for additional testing when obtaining additional safety marks.
