Passive fiber optic component testing under the Verizon independent test lab (ITL) program
UL is a Verizon-certified independent test laboratory (ITL) under Verizon's Passive Fiber Optic Component (PFOC) Program. As a certified laboratory, UL can conduct PFOC testing in accordance with Telcordia GR-Series Standards at our state-of-the-art Optical Network Test Center in Melville, New York.
UL's current GR-Standard authorizations under the Verizon PFOC program include:
- GR20 -- Fiber optic outside plant cable
- GR326 -- Fiber optic connectors and cable assemblies
- GR409 -- Fiber optic premise cable
- GR1222 -- Fiber optic terminators
UL can also offer PFOC witness testing services at a manufacturer's facility. As part of the program, both UL and Verizon will assess a manufacturer's laboratory facility to determine if it has the test equipment, trained staff, laboratory procedures and ISO17025-based quality system needed to perform PFOC testing. Once authorization to participate is granted, UL engineering staff will witness the tests at the manufacturer's laboratory and include the data in a Verizon-specific report format. The witness testing program helps customers reduce product-to-market cycles and meet Verizon's requirements in a more cost-effective way.
