Environmental analysis
Many communities expect companies to act as environmental caretakers and good corporate citizens. As a result, some governments have enacted regulations that require environmental assessment and evaluation. These regulations include the European Union's packaging directive as well as SEMI S2 guidelines.
The SEMI guidelines require documentation regarding the safe disposal, recycling methods and/or re-use of materials of tools. In addition, SEMI guidelines recommend that tools be designed to minimize use of unfriendly environmental resources.
The machinery assessment services (MAS) team's environmental engineers perform and document evaluations, including the measurement and characterization of waste streams and mass balance assessments of individual tools or entire systems to assist manufacturers in assessing compliance.
Environmental consciousness has led some companies to pursue registration to ISO 14001 (the standard for environmental management systems) and/or the eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS). The three most common reasons cited for ISO 14001 registration are the following:
- Customer requirement.
- Competitive market advantage.
- Cost or risk reduction through improved resource management.
The audit process can identify opportunities for improvement in your management system.
Upon successfully completing UL DQS ISO 14001 registration process, you will be registered under a management system environmental standard with worldwide recognition.
