European market access - CE marking services
One stop for global product compliance needs
UL can offer you testing and certification services to demonstrate compliance with the Construction Products Directive (CPD) through UL UK. As a CPD Notified Body, UL UK can evaluate products to applicable European Standards (ENs) and European Technical Approvals (ETAGs), utilizing UL's network of state of the art test facilities, and issue a CE Certificate of conformity.

Manufacturers that work with UL for the UL Mark and CE Marking services will gain a competitive advantage using UL as a one-stop-shop for all their product compliance needs. Specifically, UL's CE marking services will provide the following benefits:
- Using one organization, manufacturers will obtain the UL Mark to demonstrate compliance with UL standards and at the same time, obtain the testing and certification needed to demonstrate compliance with the CPD and apply the CE marking for the European market.
- Manufacturers will be able to work with UL technical experts with extensive knowledge and experience in UL, EN standards and ETAGs and the testing needed for multiple markets, resulting in simplified and streamlined product design and modifications as well as project planning and test programs going forward.
- UL will combine the time involved in surveillance visits of the UL Follow-Up Service program with the Factory Production Control inspection required by the CPD, resulting in savings of time and audit expenses, as compared to using multiple European certification organizations.
- For North American customers, conducting testing locally within NA can result in savings in shipping and travel expenses as well as the gain in efficiency by working with one set of technical experts on multiple test programs.
- For European customers, we will use European partners to conduct testing, making it more efficient to conduct your testing locally.
How UL's CE Certificate of Conformity Service Works
The investigation will include: 1) initial type testing of products to the applicable EN or ETAG technical specifications and 2) an initial inspection of the Factory Production Control (FPC) process to the requirements contained in the CPD and technical specifications; 3) UL UK will issue a CE Certificate of Conformity; and 4) UL will conduct an annual surveillance FPC inspection that is also required by the CPD. Testing Services - Utilizing UL's network of state of the art test facilities and qualified partner labs, UL has established a portfolio of testing services to meet your testing needs to EN and ETAG standards and coordinated with your testing needs to North American standards.
Factory Production Control Inspections - UL has experienced staff worldwide qualified to conduct an inspection of your FPC system against requirements of the standards and CPD.
Transfer of certification - If you are considering switching to UL from another Notified Body, UL can offer a painless, business friendly, transfer process.
For what Products is the Service available?
As a Notified Body to the CPD, UL UK's full scope of products and standards is included on the List of Products and Standards and generally includes:
- fire detection and alarm products and systems evaluated against EN54 standards
- fire resistance products and systems evaluated against EN standards and ETAGs
