Underwriters Laboratories of Canada Announces C-UL-US Certification for ITE and Other Electrical Equipment at Toronto Facility

NOTE: This information is from a previously printed press release, newsletter, or other dated document. It is presented here for archival purposes only.

Toronto, Ontario, October 5, 1999 - Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC) has announced new full-service information technology equipment (ITE) testing and certification. ULC's newly established Electrical Division permits manufacturers of computer, office and telecommunications equipment to place the C-UL-US certification Mark on products to be marketed in Canada and the United States. Prior to the establishment of ULC's Electrical Division, ITE manufacturers were required to submit their products to one of Underwriters Laboratories' U.S. offices to obtain the C-UL-US Mark.

The new division also expands ULC's role as an integral part of the Canadian Safety System, as well as increasing its global service capabilities. In addition to evaluating products such as facsimile machines, modems and telephones for manufacturers throughout Canada, ULC will play an active role in existing and future mutual recognition agreements and standards development projects for information technology equipment. Other products tested by ULC's Electrical Division will include lighting equipment, medical equipment, test and measurement devices, audio and video products, and consumer appliances.

"ULC's mission is to be a full service conformity assessment and safety certification provider for Canadian manufacturers," said Greg Galluccio, director of ULC's Electrical Division. "Our new Electrical Division is another example of how ULC provides fast, cost effective access to global markets through the UL family of Marks," he added.

Headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC) is one of North America's most widely recognized third-party certifiers in a number of electrical and fire protection related categories. An affiliate of Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL), ULC is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and is committed to expanding its network of global services for product certification and quality system registration for Canadian manufacturers.
