Standard Updates

  • UL 62368-1

Specific details related to the implementation of the first edition of UL 62368-1 may be found here

  • IEC 62368-1, First Edition

IEC 62368-1 Edition 1.0 – Audio/Video, Information and Communication Technology Equipment – Safety Requirements – has been an IEC standard since early 2010.  The standard pioneers a radical new approach to safety standards – replacing the traditional, prescriptive “set of rules” approach with a new hazard-based approach which focuses on identifying safety risks in the early product development phase and designing the product to eliminate them.  This Hazard Based Safety Engineering (HBSE) approach has the benefit of facilitating the introduction of new technology without first requiring amendment of the relevant standards to accommodate it.

As the new standard represents a major departure from traditional standards, it has initially been introduced as a voluntary alternative to the existing standards, IEC 60065 and IEC 60950-1. Adoption of the standard in the United States and Canada as UL/CSA 62368-1 First Edition, was approved in December 2011 and was published in February 2012.

UL now accredited to issue CB Certificates for hazard-based standard

With national and regional versions of the IEC 62368-1 Standard now beginning to be published, the IECEE CB Scheme for IEC 62368-1 is under way.  The new standard is now included under the IECEE CB Scheme as an alternative under the category OFF.

UL is delighted to announce that it has been accredited by the IECEE for IEC 62368-1.  Therefore, in addition to offering to our high-tech customers UL Marks for the both the U.S. and Canada, UL can now offer CB-related services, including Certificates and Test Reports, for products that have been determined by our accredited CBTLs to be compliant with the First Edition of IEC 62368-1.
