How does the process of CTIA certification differ from UL certification?
The main differences are:
- The customer needs to make a request directly via the CTIA web site and select UL as CATL at the beginning of a new project.
- There is a certification fee (separate from the UL fee) that the customer will need to pay to the CTIA directly. CTIA certification fees for Subsystem recognition as of July 2009 are:
- $2,500 for Cell or Pack
- Initial $750 for Adapter
- Initial $0 for Cell, Pack or Adapter - ECO
- CTIA is the body that provides the certification, after testing and evaluation by UL.
-
Does CTIA certification require factory audits?
Yes, CTIA certification includes yearly factory audits. These are quality audits and will be conducted by our sister company UL-DQS. The factory audits are only required for the cells.
-
Is CTIA certification mandatory?
No, CTIA certification is not required by law. However, it is a requirement by major telecommunication service providers like Verizon and AT&T for their suppliers.
