Growing Importance of Mobile Data Security and Payments
Mobile payment - using a mobile phone to pay for goods and services, as opposed to cash, check or a credit card - is quickly becoming a prominent payment method among consumers. In order to meet this rapidly growing industry, in June 2010, UL acquired RFI Global Services Ltd. (RFI Global), a leading provider of testing, approval and consultancy services to the global technology market, including data security, cellular, wireless and smart card technologies.
Since the acquisition, RFI Global has been integrated into UL's Verification Services business, which provides performance testing, inspection and auditing for product manufacturers and retailers worldwide. As part of the WiSE (Wireless - interoperability - Security - EMC) group, which forms a division of Verification Services, RFI Global has created a long-term growth strategy to accommodate the adoption of mobile payment services. RFI Global's experience and work augments UL's growing list of wireless services, as RFI Global is uniquely positioned with a very rare set of skills which occupy the overlap between wireless communications, payment services and security evaluations.
To further engage with customers in the Asia Pacific region, RFI Global will be present at CARTES in Asia during the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong on March 29-31, 2011. CARTES in Asia is a regional exhibition and high-level congress covering digital security and smart technologies. RFI Global representatives will deliver a presentation titled, "Security Challenges in Convergence and Mobility Technologies" as part of the Mobile Banking seminar on March 31 at 5 p.m.
