UL Introduces Customized Workshops for IEC 62368-1 Education

Underwriters Laboratories (UL) continues to add to its full suite of educational offerings on Hazard Based Safety Engineering (HBSE). As a participant on the IEC TC108 committee that helped develop IEC 62368-1, UL is uniquely qualified to help facilitate the adoption of the standard and its testing protocol.

"HBSE is creating an exciting shift in the way our industry operates. The change will be significant and UL hopes to help our customers prepare by providing industry specific education and training," said Kevin Ravo, general manager of UL information technology. "The customers we have talked with during our forums and roundtables have appreciated learning about the changes coming as we get closer to implementation."

UL is offering HBSE and IEC 62368-1 private seminars that can be customized based on customer product, availability and location. Tailored workshops can be single or multi-day, at a UL University location or in a customer's facility. For more information, contact Kevin Ravo.

UL is making formal education and information resources available through a catalog of public workshops and online courses. UL University's Summary Comparison Document helps students differentiate between IEC 62368-1 and either IEC 60065 or IEC 60950-1 in just 15 minutes.

Forums and roundtables

Forums and roundtables have been informative to those who oversee conformity assessment and/or product safety, most notably designers, as the approach of the new standard offers more design alternatives for products than current prescriptive standards.
