Important Decisions & Updates

Key Decisions from the CMC Meeting in London, June 2012

Battery Situation

There is no change for TC 108 products (OFF and TRON) until new editions of IEC Standards 60950-1, 62368-1 and 62133 are published (later this year and Spring 2013).

For all other categories of products, Lithium-Ion (Li), Nickel-Cadmium (NiCd ) and Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries must be tested in full to IEC62133 (as of May 2012).

Electric Vehicles

A new product category - for Electric Vehicles (ELVH) is now available in the CB Scheme, utilizing the following standards: IEC 61851-1, IEC 61851-21, IEC 61851-22, IEC 62196-1, IEC 62196-2.

Energy Efficiency

In the field of the existing IECEE Energy Efficiency Program (E3), the CMC has approved the use of IEC Noise Level standards for Household Appliances.

Future/Potential New CB Scheme Programs

The IECEE is proceeding with the development of CB Scheme programs for Smart Grid and Industrial Automation.

There is also a strong interest in potential new program areas such as Wind Turbines, Marine Energy, Functional Safety, Energy Efficiency Labeling of Electric Motors, and Telecommunications.

Use of Manufacturers'/Customers' Testing Facilities

Manufacturers'/Customers' testing facilities can now offer "lower-level" services without the need for additional assessments and administrative procedures. For example, an SMT Laboratory can be used for TMP and WMT services, since it meets all the relevant requirements.  Similarly, a WMT facility may be used by a CBTL to conduct TMP.

IECEE MEE Task Force

Risk management Task Force published new edition of OD-2044, Guidelines for Risk Management in medical electrical equipment, which now includes not only IEC 60601-1, third edition but also also Collateral Standards.

Appointment of New IECEE Officers

A new slate of officers has been appointed for a term of office from Jan. 1, 2013 to Dec. 31, 2015:

Chairman - Ron Collis (Rockwell), Australia

Vice Chairman - Shigeyuki Kondo (JQA), JP

Treasurer - Fritz Beglinger (Electrosuisse), CH

Future CMC Meetings

The next CMC meeting will take place in Vancouver, Canada, during the week of June 17, 2013.  This meeting will be hosted jointly by the US and Canadian NCs.

The 2014 meeting of the CMC will be held in Caines, Australia.

The CMC has also received an offer from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to host a CMC meeting in Dubai in the week of June 15th, 2015.
