Code authorities
UL is committed to protecting the integrity of the UL family of certification Marks. The Market Surveillance staff at UL administers one of several UL programs that help regulatory authorities determine that products in their communities are installed in a manner that complies with UL safety requirements and applicable installation code requirements.
To report a concern with a product installation, complete the online form.
When reporting a concern, it is important to include all critical information related to the installation, providing as much detail on the form as possible. Upon receipt of the form, UL will respond with an acknowledgment providing the name of the UL Market Surveillance staff member handling the report and the report reference number. UL will work to verify the concern, determine a root cause and take appropriate corrective action. UL will communicate with the submitter and send a notice upon completion of the investigation. UL may not be able to share with the submitter details of its findings because the information may be proprietary to the manufacturer. Where warranted, a public notice may be issued.
Regardless of UL's investigation and findings, the local code authority is the only party with authority to approve a product installation under the governing code provisions.
