EMC software -- emissions
UL's turnkey emission software was developed from a dual perspective -- that of the test lab and the manufacturer. For test labs, accuracy, completeness and flexibility are often critical. For the manufacturer, the need to evaluate several versions of a particular design is also critical in finding the most cost-effective solution. In UL's EMC software, emphasis has been placed on using the swept measurement technique to speed through all types of radiated and conducted measurements. Our software has become a valuable tool for EMC test engineers during more than a decade of use.
Three versions of EMI software are available:
V2.05b -- Basic EMI without turntable or mast control
This is the basic EMI program for control of a spectrum analyzer and does not include a turntable or antenna tower. It is an economical solution for customers that have small pre-compliance chambers or OATS. However, the software does provide full support for conducted voltage and power testing, as well as cable characterization.
V2.05 -- Standard EMI with turntable or mast control
This package is the full EMI system currently being used at UL. Control of multiple antenna masts and a turntable are provided, in addition to complete control of a wide variety of instruments. This solution is a good fit for compliance test sites or large pre-compliance sites that employ turntable and masts.
V2.05e -- Enhanced EMI with normalized site attenuation (NSA)
This is the basic package with the addition of normalized site attenuation (NSA) capabilities, including:
- Characterization of cables
- Calibration of antennas
- Full volumetric site attenuation
NSA can be performed in two modes: volumetric or single location, in swept frequency or using discrete points. Customers seeking compliance with the new C63.4:1999 will find this system valuable since the standard requires volumetric NSA for weather-protected OATS.

Our basic package includes one full day of training on the use of the software features. It also covers fundamental measurement procedures and techniques encompassing domestic and international standards.
