Link and channel performance testing

This program is specifically geared towards system designers, installers, contractors and end-users. Under this program, UL performs field measurements in accordance to TIA/EIA 568B2. Upon successful completion of the testing UL issues a written report. In addition, UL performs link and channel testing in our performance verification LAN laboratory in accordance to the requirements in TIA/EIA 568B2 and Category 6 draft specifications or other performance standards.

Bit error rate testing using Netcom Systems SmartBits

As a supplementary service to our link and channel testing, UL offers an additional testing program consisting of both passive and active real-time measurements of networks with live data packets to determine performance of GigaBit Ethernet networks in accordance to IEEE 802.3.

Upon successful completion of this testing, UL will issue a letter report in both a printed and PDF format. This report may be posted on your Web site to show customers that your GigiBit Ethernet network solution is in compliance to the IEEE 802.3 industry standard.

Cable performance only

Cable verified for performance only shall have the marking "Verified by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. Only to (specification name and/or number)" or "Verified by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. in accordance with (specification name and/or number)." The tag markings and verification labels for performance-only cables are similar to other products, except that the UL symbol is not associated with these markings, instead referencing "Verified by Underwriters Laboratories" as stated previously.

Certificate services program

This is another service available under UL's performance verification program for LAN products and systems. Upon request, UL will conduct a third-party assessment to verify a subscriber's compliance with their proprietary performance specification for testing LAN products, and/or the design and testing of LAN systems and solutions. The assessment includes initial correlation testing between the subscriber's facility and UL, an engineering and management systems audit (modeled after ISO9002/ISO Guide 25) of the subscriber's facility to determine compliance with their performance specification, periodic correlation testing at UL, and an annual surveillance audit to verify the subscriber's continued compliance with their specification. A certificate of compliance is issued to the subscriber upon acceptable completion of the assessment. Continued participation in this service is contingent upon acceptable completion of periodic correlation testing and the surveillance audit.
