UCMR 2

As one of only a few laboratories in the country qualified to perform all analyses required under the Environmental Protection Agency's Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule 2 (UCMR 2), UL is ready to assist you with both List 1 and List 2 monitoring requirements. After successfully passing proficiency testing (PT) Study 1 for all 25 parameters required under this regulation, our laboratory received full EPA approval for all five methods required under UCMR 2.

Our customer service team members are fully trained in the requirements of the UCMR 2, giving you -- and regulators -- the confidence that the data generated by UL will meet all requirements of this rule.

About UCMR 2

UCMR 2 is designed to collect occurrence data on chemicals identified in the EPA's Contaminant Candidate List. These chemicals are not regulated by national primary drinking water regulations but are known or anticipated to occur at public water systems and may warrant regulation under the Safe Drinking Water Act.

Let us assist you with the key elements of complying with UCMR 2, including:

  • Assessment monitoring - All public water systems (PWSs) serving more than 10,000 people, and a representative sample of 800 PWSs serving 10,000 or fewer people, will be required to conduct quarterly assessment monitoring for 10 chemicals (List 1) during a 12-month period between January 2008 and December 2010.
  • Screening survey - All PWSs serving more than 100,000 people, along with 320 representative large systems (serving 10,001-100,000) and 480 representative small systems (serving 10,000 or fewer), will be required to conduct a screening survey for 15 (List 2) contaminants.

Our laboratory currently offers all methods required for both List 1 (assessment monitoring) and List 2 (screening survey) contaminant monitoring. Under UCMR 1, our laboratory also received full EPA laboratory approval and was one of only two laboratories in the country awarded the EPA Small Systems contract for List 2 monitoring.
