Quality assurance program

At UL, we are committed to providing analytical services that set the standard for excellence in the environmental testing industry. Thousands of bottlers, public water supplies, engineering firms, consultants, and state and federal agencies rely on the quality of our data to demonstrate compliance with drinking water regulations and determine potability of water supplies in the United States and around the world.

Our comprehensive quality assurance program is designed to address all aspects of sample collection, analysis and reporting. The cornerstone of this program is our quality assurance manual (QAM), which defines the rigorous internal standards for quality and integrity our data must meet.

With certifications in 50 states and Puerto Rico, UL holds more certifications for drinking water analyses than any other laboratory in the nation. Assessors for the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP), multiple state accrediting authorities, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and several Fortune 500 companies regularly audit UL and find that our quality system is effective in meeting their specific requirements.

To give you complete confidence in our work, data produced by our laboratory:

  • Meets current local, state and federal drinking water regulations
  • Complies with standards set by NELAP, a program that implements voluntary performance standards for the operation of environmental laboratories
  • Meets ISO 17025 calibration and testing requirements for precision, accuracy and repeatability of results
  • Complies with the Department of Defense Quality Systems Manual
