UL certification process

We at UL are committed to helping you through every step in the certification process. First, contact UL customer service at 1.877.854.3577 or e-mail cec.us@us.ul.com to let us know what product or product family you would like to have certified. A customer service representative will prepare a quotation based upon your product and will be available to answer any questions you may have.

Submission of product information

To get your project started, UL will need to gather information on your product. You can download applicant submittal forms, then complete and submit to UL. Your assigned project handler will contact you if additional information is required, and will oversee your project through completion.

Previously non-certified products

For products that have not been previously certified by UL or another certification body, UL will review all product formulation information, toxicological reviews and reports containing original certification data and recent retesting data.

Upon receipt, UL will review the complete package of information and data. If the toxicological review confirms that the certifying body has analyzed for all the formulation dependant contaminants, UL will review the extraction data to confirm it is sufficient to support UL certification. Additional testing will be performed if necessary. UL will also conduct a quality audit of your facility.

Upon successful completion of the project and initial inspection, you will be authorized to use the UL Mark for your product.

Follow-Up Services

Once your product earns the UL Mark, UL field representatives located worldwide will make periodic visits to each production facility to determine that your products continue to meet requirements. This rigorous program helps protect the integrity of the UL Mark.
