The UL Plumbing Mark -- one mark is all you need to demonstrate plumbing code compliance

In response to industry demand, UL now offers the UL Plumbing Mark. This Mark clearly identifies those products that comply with all applicable:

  • Health-effects standards
  • Plumbing performance standards
  • Requirements of both the IPC and UPC and Canadian plumbing codes

Key advantages of the UL Plumbing Mark

  • The UL Plumbing Mark demonstrates compliance with both the International Plumbing Code (IPC) and the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) -- one Mark demonstrates product compliance in all 50 states. Products evaluated to the National Plumbing Code of Canada are suitable for installation in Canada.
  • The UL Plumbing Mark is a UL Listing Mark. Products displaying the UL Plumbing Mark have been evaluated to all applicable nationally recognized health-effects and performance testing standards
  • UL brand value -- no other mark has the recognition or acceptance, or can add more value to your brand

Products carrying the UL Plumbing Mark

The UL Plumbing Mark will be implemented in phases. Initially, it will be available for all products related to plumbing fixture fittings including:

Mechanical plumbing devices

  • Faucets for sinks
  • Faucets with pullout spouts and side sprays
  • Handheld showers

Mechanical devices

  • Pressure balanced valves
  • Thermostatic mixing valves

Use of the UL Plumbing Mark and the UL Water Quality Mark

  • Products that bear the UL Water Quality Mark have been evaluated to all applicable health-effects standards. The new UL Plumbing Mark is a Listing Mark that indicates samples of a product have been evaluated to all applicable health-effects and performance testing requirements
  • Manufacturers interested in the UL Plumbing Mark will need to have their products evaluated against all standards and requirements established for their products
  • Manufacturers have the option to use the UL Water Quality Mark in addition to the new UL Plumbing Mark
