Vehicle Inspection Program for Manufacturers of Automotive Fire Apparatus

(New Apparatus)

UL's vehicle inspection program is a certificate program that assesses fire apparatus compliance with NFPA 1901, Standard for Automotive Fire Apparatus, 2009 Edition.

To assist apparatus manufacturers in verifying compliance with NFPA 1901, UL offers a vehicle inspection program to apparatus manufacturers.  UL is an independent third-party testing organization, and its vehicle inspection program is accredited by International Accreditation Services for inspection and testing systems on fire apparatus in accordance with ISO/IEC 17020, General criteria for the operation of various types of bodies performing inspection.

Fire Departments typically include a clause in their bid specifications requiring compliance with NFPA 1901, Standard for Automotive Fire Apparatus, when they purchase a new fire apparatus.  NFPA 1901 requires the entity responsible for final assembly of the apparatus to deliver with the apparatus either a certificate that the apparatus fully complies with the requirements of NFPA 1901 or a Statement of Exceptions specifically describing each aspect of the completed apparatus that is not fully compliant with NFPA 1901.

UL's vehicle inspection program is a multi-part inspection program. For more information please see full program description.
