UL 60065 - SEVENTH EDITION

(Sub) CLAUSE / ANNEX NUMBER:

9.1.1

(Sub) CLAUSE / ANNEX HEADING:

Electric shock hazard under normal operating conditions - Testing on the outside - General

OTHER RELEVANT (Sub) CLAUSES / ANNEXES (as applicable):

See Clause 11 regarding use of UL 60950(-1) power supplies in audio/video products.

DESCRIPTION OF ISSUE:

When power supplies have been evaluated using UL 60950(-1) requirements, which touch current (leakage current) limits are applied?

APPLICATION GUIDELINE:

The touch or leakage current limits noted in Clause 9 of UL 60065 apply regardless of the Standard used to investigate the power supply.

RATIONALE:

The leakage current limits for power supplies investigated using UL 60950 are higher than those in UL 60065 (and in IEC 60065) and are not applicable for use with audio/video products. Although UL 60065 will accept products that employ a UL 60950(-1) investigated power supply, the lower touch current levels in Clause 9.1.1 should be noted and applied.
