DESCRIPTION OF ISSUE:

Can "Warning" or "Danger" be used in lieu of "Caution" in the supplementary marking?

APPLICATION GUIDELINE:

The use of the word "Warning" or "Danger" is not recommended to be used in place of the word "Caution" in the supplementary marking.

RATIONALE:

The signal word (Caution, Warning and Danger) is carefully selected to call attention to the marking and to indicate the severity level associated with the risk of harm relative to the hazard taking into account the likelihood of exposure. The word "Caution" represents the lowest level of the three signal words with "Danger" representing the highest. Therefore, whenever the word "Caution" is used, it is not recommended to be replaced with either of the higher level signal words; "Warning" or "Danger."
