Dielectric strength
The dielectric strength of a material is determined by the maximum AC voltage per unit thickness that the material can handle before breakdown occurs. The test consists of placing a sample of material between two neoprene disks coated with silicone grease to prevent flashover. A dielectric potential is then placed across the sample and is increased at a specified rate until breakdown occurs.
