Electrical insulation systems

Give your electrical insulation systems and components the Recognition they deserve.

Today's complex electrical applications demand greater diligence in verifying that individual insulation materials can perform together in shared environments. UL is unique in the way it evaluates and certifies electrical insulation systems (EIS), which means safer and better quality products for the global marketplace.

In addition to evaluating insulation materials as individual components, UL evaluates the system as a whole. This allows us to determine if components react chemically at certain maximum temperatures, which may cause product failure or other hazards to occur.

UL's synergistic approach to EIS testing increases users' confidence in the whole system, which means safer and better quality products for the global marketplace. UL evaluates a wide range of materials under its Component Recognition program, helping manufacturers demonstrate compliance with the applicable component requirements. UL can also assist OEMs with the adoption of previously evaluated systems, available on its free, online Electrical Insulation Systems database.

UL offers the most comprehensive testing services available in the EIS industry. We are constantly expanding our portfolio of EIS certification services to better serve component manufacturers and OEMs, allowing our customers to keep pace with the new technological developments in their respective industries. This includes UL's newest service, "motorette" or general purpose model (GPM) testing.

Products evaluated under our complete EIS service portfolio include:

  • Plastic and electrical insulation materials
  • Electrical insulation systems
  • Magnet wire and magnet wire coatings
  • Varnishes
