Research and technology

UL's corporate research and technology team provides insurance companies, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), retailers, product manufacturers and building owners with certification and customized testing services.

UL testing and certification services offer several advantages. One benefit is product listing in the appropriate UL product directory, an invaluable resource used by thousands of regulatory authorities, building owners and insurance companies. UL directories contain a list of companies that have demonstrated compliance with UL requirements and applicable Standards and are authorized to use a UL Mark.

Architects, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), purchasing agents and others turn to UL's product directories to find important information about products bearing the UL Mark. UL's regulatory services department regularly promotes the product directories directly to appropriate officials. Products certified by UL have a better chance of being immediately accepted by AHJs, thus avoiding construction delays.

The UL directories, as well as the online certifications directory, are referenced by more than 2,500 regulatory authorities and code officials annually.
