Fire extinguishers

The integrity of the UL Mark assures manufacturers that their fire extinguishers, as well as fire extinguisher components and agents, meet the highest standards for safety and performance across North America. UL Listed extinguishers can be marketed anywhere in the United States and Canada based on their proven ability to extinguish specific classes of fires. UL lists certified products and components in UL product directories, referenced by authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) to verify that individual facilities have the appropriate fire extinguishing ratings.

With more than 100 years of fire testing and certification expertise, UL is a leading resource on fire safety. Alarm system components bearing the UL Mark meet all applicable safety standards and have proven to perform together as a system. UL Listed fire alarm equipment is also covered by UL's Follow-Up Services program. Through periodic audits, UL's audit staff verifies that the equipment installed meets applicable codes and standards and is used for the purpose for which it was Listed.

The UL advantage

More than 80 years ago, UL developed the test standards for fire extinguishers that still guide the product development process today. As new technologies emerge, manufacturers can work with UL engineers during the design process to address design and performance challenges. By matching product components to existing standards, and alerting UL to specific technology enhancements, manufacturers can streamline the testing and certification process, control testing costs and accelerate time-to-market.

Manufacturers often work with UL engineers to address specific performance issues that may arise. This collaboration helps provide products that meet the highest industry standards.
