NOM-058-SCFI-1999 scope of application

The safety requirements and testing methods covered by this Standard apply to the following types of ballasts:

  • Electromagnetic ballasts for normal-/rapid-/instant- start fluorescent lamps.
  • Electronic ballasts for normal-/rapid-/instant- start fluorescent lamps. Note: Fluorescent lamps are of the hot or cold cathode type.
  • Electromagnetic ballasts for high pressure sodium vapor lamps.
  • Electronic ballasts for high pressure sodium vapor lamps.
  • Electromagnetic ballasts for low pressure sodium vapor lamps.
  • Electronic ballasts for low pressure sodium vapor lamps.
  • Electromagnetic ballasts for mercury vapor lamps.
  • Electronic ballasts for mercury vapor lamps.
  • Electromagnetic ballasts for lamps with metal additives.
  • Electronic ballasts for lamps with metal additives.
  • Hybrid ballasts for the lamps mentioned as from sub-section 2.1.1 through to 2.1.10 of this Official Mexican Standard.

This Standard also applies to adapters for fluorescent lamps since there is currently no specific Official Mexican Standard applicable to these products.

This Official Mexican Standard applies only to ballasts operating with open-circuit single-phase or two-phase line voltage of 2000 V rms or less on the basis of the description stated in the Official Mexican Standard NOM-001-SEDE. The rated power supply voltage for the ballasts must be one or more of the following: 120 V, 127 V, 220 V, 240 V, 254 V, 277 V, 440 V and 480 V alternate current, with temporary variations of + 10%, 60 Hz, and in direct current up to 24 V direct current. In addition, this Official Mexican Standard applies to electronic ballasts that may operate in a continued interval of power supply voltages if the interval includes one or several of the voltages above mentioned.

Product standards can be found on the Secretary of Economy page dedicated to their standards catalog.
