Learning and development

At the UL family of companies, we want you to succeed and we want to help you realize and achieve your career goals.  We offer many opportunities for learning and development including: education assistance, ULU and New Safety Engineering Program (NSEP).

At UL, your career is what you make of it.

UL University

UL University, our comprehensive training and professional development organization, houses four unique colleges: Leadership and Management College, Safety Engineering College, Commercial College and External Customer College. Each college offers top-quality coursework delivered by professional trainers and teachers.

In 2007 alone, UL employees attended more than a quarter of a million training hours through UL University.

ULearn, a new safety engineering program (NSEP)

Newly hired UL engineers participate in a dynamic 11-week training program with a mix of five weeks of classroom work and  six weeks of home office work. The learning format includes e-learning, self-study, simulation, on-the-job experience, and mentoring.

The NSEP program consists of an overview of UL, coupled with focused training covering hazard-based safety engineering, technical requirements, processes and tools, report writing and laboratory procedures.

This program is open to:

  • All safety engineers who have been with UL for three months or less
  • All project handlers who may be incorporating more engineering responsibilities in their daily activities
  • Any UL employee who may be moving to engineering after an absence; even if you have previous experience in the conformity assessment area, the systems and processes at UL are specific and need to be experienced
