Guide information

In some product categories and when authorized by UL, the UL Mark may appear on the smallest unit packaging in lieu of appearing on the product. This alternate means of identifying the product as covered under UL programs is limited to where the size, shape or physical composition of the end product prohibits the application of the complete UL Mark on the product. The UL procedure document for a product will identify if this alternate marking method is acceptable.

For certain product categories and where UL hologram labels are required, UL strictly controls the reproduction of UL Marks. In these product categories all orders for UL Marks must be authorized by a UL Label Center that will assign the appropriate control numbers to appear on the labels. UL's customer service department can indicate whether a product falls into one of these categories.

You can locate a description of the basic elements of the UL Mark in the UL procedure document for a product. The Online Certifications Directory can also provide this information -- enter the Category Code for a product and check the box "Display Guide Information Only." If you do not know the Category Code for a product you can contact either the customer service department at 1.877.UL HELPS (877.854.3577) or a UL project engineer.
