UL issues first certificate of compliance for Mexico energy labeling

UL recently issued its first Certificate of Compliance to Mexico’s new energy consumption labeling requirements to the Chicony Power for their external power supply, model A11-120P1A in September 2011.

Mexico’s National Commission for Efficient Energy Use (CONUEE) maintains a Catalog of Equipment or Devices for which Manufacturers, Importers, Distributors and Merchants Must Provide Information on Energy Consumption.  The Catalog was first officially published in September 2010.  Energy consumption labeling is mandatory for new energy-consuming products and appliances included in the Catalog’s 186 products which are distributed or sold in Mexico.

UL assists manufacturers and importers of such products to gain access to the fast-growing Mexican market by testing samples against applicable requirements and certifying compliance.  This service forms part of UL’s Energy Efficiency Certification program which evaluates and certifies products for their compliance to various energy efficiency requirements and/or energy consumption regulations, including CONUEE.  This service is part of UL’s Global Market Access (GMA) program, which provides UL customers worldwide with efficient and cost-effective access to the certifications they need for entry to many markets.

UL has already received another 64 applications for Certification of Compliance with Mexico’s CONUEE requirements, indicating that UL’s recognized status as a global leader in energy efficiency/consumption certification services makes it the natural choice for businesses demanding this service.

As UL’s Business Development Manager for Energy Efficiency, Tom Juliano, explains: “In striving for commercial success, manufacturers face enormous challenges when accessing the global market.  The multitude of rules and regulations that are ever changing can make these diverse trading environments seem complex and confusing.  UL’s Mexico energy consumption reporting process and local representation has addressed the needs of manufacturers to allow for easy market access.”
