Lab and safety program services
Today's manufacturers focus on speed to market as a way to seize market share and capture additional revenue. In order to keep the product supply steady, they need to streamline product engineering and accelerate the safety testing required to access global markets. Some meet this challenge by building and operating local onsite testing laboratories. Manufacturers make an upfront capital investment and incur on-going operating expense. In return, this strategy gives them greater control over product development and testing. It also improves product performance by enabling engineers to collaborate with test experts to design safety features into new products.
As a leader in testing and certification, UL helps manufacturers around the world build and operate testing laboratories, develop new safety programs, and identify and mitigate safety risks. UL offers custom, end-to-end solutions that accelerate product development, reduce non-compliance risk and create a competitive advantage. UL's data acceptance programs (DAP) enable manufacturers to obtain UL safety certification based on test data they compile and submit.
- Lab design, set-up and support services help manufacturers open new labs for safety, performance or quality testing, upgrading existing facilities, and overcoming compliance issues. UL provides end-to-end services that include developing and operating new facilities; selecting vendors; identifying, installing and calibrating equipment; training staff on regulatory requirements and compliance with UL DAP procedures; and supporting CB scheme manufacturer's testing laboratory (MTL) programs.
- Safety programs provide expert guidance to help manufacturers meet applicable regulatory requirements. UL experts can help assess existing safety programs or develop new programs for laboratory facilities. We can also conduct pre-audit reviews and gap assessments.
- Evaluations help manufacturers assess safety risks and prepare for safety audits. UL will conduct pre-audits of products and facilities, assess risks and perform gap analysis, perform product safety and field evaluations, inspect newly installed equipment, and evaluate buildings for fire, shock and other safety risks.
