Fire certificate user group
In response to requests from jurisidictional authorities, UL is forming a fire alarm certificate service users group. UL plans to meet two goals through the formation of this group: improving communication between UL and jurisidictional authorities, and initiating communication among jurisidictional authorities.
Improved communication between UL and jurisdictional authorities
Many jurisidictional authorities use the fire certificate program as a part of their code compliance management efforts. Timely receipt of certificate status information is critical if compliance is to be managed appropriately. To assist, UL offers direct access to the certificate database via UL's certificate verification service (ULCVS). In addition, the following printed reports are available to jurisidictional authorities:
- Daily certificate activity -- UL processes all requests for new certificates and requests for cancellation of certificates within 24 hours of receipt. In addition, expiring certificates are removed from the active database daily. UL can inform jurisdictional authorities of these activities within their jurisdiction by mailing notices to jurisdictional authorities concurrently with documentation mailed to the responsible alarm company.
- Certificate inventory reports -- On a weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly basis, UL can send jurisidictional authorities a list of all active certificates in the jurisdiction. For each alarm system, the report lists the certificate serial number, protected property name and address, type of alarm system (central station, remote station, etc.) and alarm company name. The report can be sorted by protected property name, address, name/address, or address/name.
