Products and standards

When a product is regulated, the test standard for determining its efficiency is identified. When a test standard is not available, interested parties work together to develop one. An important consideration in using an energy efficiency test method is repeatability of test results.

In 1994, UL participated in the second round of NEMA's Electric Motor Efficiency Testing Program. This helped determine the level of variation in test results that may occur between independent testing laboratories and a manufacturer's own testing facilities.
