National industrial security systems

UL's national industrial security systems programs provide alarm contractors with an edge over their competition by placing their company into an elite group of contractors. Having a UL Listing opens the door for your company in previously inaccessible markets, allowing you to realize the advantage of a UL Listing. You will find that the Listing process is a simple, affordable and achievable program for the majority of alarm companies. Once alarm companies go through the Listing evaluation, they are eligible to issue certificates on systems installed at protected properties. This process is similar to placing the Listing mark on a product; however, with these programs, the Listing Mark takes the form of a certificate issued on the entire system.

Because of the high level of quality assurance and system reliability found in alarm systems with the UL certification, the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) recognizes the importance of UL certification. To maintain the highest level of security that is required at DOD protected property, alarm systems will be installed, serviced, maintained and monitored in accordance with nationally recognized UL standards, along with the The National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual.

A national industrial security system involves alarm detection equipment installed at an area to be protected and remotely monitored by alarm receiving equipment located at 1) a government contractor monitoring station, 2) a central station that is UL Listed for Burglar Alarm Systems (CPVX), for Protective Signaling Services (UUFX), or for Residential Monitoring Station (CVSU), or 3) a law enforcement station or law enforcement dispatch center.

The National Industrial Security System Category specifies monitored opening and closing of the systems, and notifying personnel responsible for responding to alarms of a condition that requires investigation. The requirements for this can be found in UL 2050.
