Radiochemistry

Whether you need to comply with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's radionuclides rule or are looking for fast turnaround on analyses of radionuclides in drinking water, UL offers the services and technical expertise you need.

To assist you in compliance efforts, our laboratory offers the full spectrum of compliance services, including one-call scheduling, complete sampling kits and reports provided in your state format. We also offer a 48-hour rapid gross alpha test for compliance with the radionuclides rule in New Jersey.

About the EPA's radionuclides rule

The Radionuclides Rule requires community water systems (CWSs) to conduct initial monitoring at each entry point to their distribution systems for some or all of the following radionuclides:

  • Gross alpha
  • Gross beta
  • Radium-226
  • Radium-228
  • Total uranium
  • Strontium-90
  • Tritium

For your system to comply with the radionuclides rule, data must be grandfathered or monitoring must be performed for four consecutive quarters by December 2007. Additionally, all compliance data must be generated by a certified laboratory. For a complete state-by-state listing of UL's certifications for these contaminants, visit our certifications section.

Analytical services for radon

In addition to our analytical services for radionuclides rule compliance, UL also offers radon-222 analysis.

Your radionuclides compliance partner

Our customer service team members are fully trained in the requirements of the radionuclides rule and look forward to assisting you with this regulation.
