Functional Safety Seminar: The role of functional safety in ‘Smart Efficiency’

The 90-minute UL seminar on functional safety explains the basic concepts and principles of functional safety. With IEC 61508-2nd edition as the main reference, it highlights the differences to the first edition of IEC 61508 where appropriate.
Going more into detail, the role of functional safety in “Smart Efficiency” is then considered including relevant standards and known conflicts related to sustainable power generation, electrified mobility, efficient lighting (LED), intelligent power distribution and energy efficiency in industrial processes.
The presentation will conclude with an introduction to UL’s new functional safety certification and service program and how it can help suppliers and users of components and systems. The presentation is followed by an informal Q&A session with UL’s principal engineer for functional safety.
