Fire-Resistive Assemblies

Underwriters Laboratories Inc. can create fire-explosive conditions that represent either a fully developed building fire or a hydrocarbon pool fire.

For more than a century, Underwriters Laboratories has been a single-source provider of fire testing for a variety of building assembly materials, including floors, roofs, walls, beams and columns. UL offers a variety of standard test programs for products such as gypsum board, spray-applied fire-resistive materials and in tumescent coatings. Additionally, our experience and extensive database allow us to customize a test program in order to limit the amount of full-scale testing required and reduce testing costs. UL can also conduct engineering studies on changes in previously evaluated construction to determine if those changes would impact the fire-resistive performance. Our Research and Development Services has deep experience creating new standards to cover innovations in the field of fire-resistive assemblies.

  • 14'x17', 5'x9', 4'x4' and 3'x3' horizontal furnaces
  • Vertical furnaces (full-scale and small-scale)
